What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is an easy, affordable method of improving the appearance of your teeth. It’s a simple and easy solution for discoloration, chipping, and unevenness. If your teeth are healthy but you’re dissatisfied with their shape, color, or size, bonding might be an excellent option for you. 

 

Also known as tooth bonding, it’s a procedure where the dentist applies a tooth-colored resin over the teeth. The resin color is picked specifically to match your desired look. 

 

After preparing the teeth, the dentist attaches, molds, and shapes to improve the overall shape and evenness of your teeth. To finish the bonding process, the resin is finally cured with ultra-violet light. The final result is undetectable, but it significantly improves the look of your teeth.

Do Teeth Need Special Care After Dental Bonding?

Yes. Unlike porcelain veneers, the resin used for dental bonding is not as durable or stain-resistant. Since tooth bonding is largely a cosmetic treatment, you’ll want to be very careful to take excellent care of your teeth. 

 

Make sure to follow excellent dental care habits. Brush twice daily, floss daily, use mouthwash, and never skip your dental cleaning appointments. You may also want to avoid consuming beverages that may stain the bonding resin, like coffee and red wine.  

 

You’ll also need to watch out for things that may cause your bonding to chip. Avoid eating very solid things like ice or hard candies. If you’re in the habit of biting your nails or chewing on pens, you may want to avoid bonding altogether and opt for veneers, instead.

How Long Does Dental Bonding Material Last?

The longevity of your dental bonding largely depends on your lifestyle and habits. The material is a little more fragile, so while it can last for up to 10 years, most of our patients will require touch-ups a lot sooner. 

 

Thankfully, we’ll be able to fix your dental bonding in a single appointment, and it’s usually a quick and easy process. 

 

By comparison, porcelain dental veneers will usually last for 10 years at a minimum, but can easily endure for up to 15 years with minimal need for touch-ups or fixes.
